Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Bait and switch tactics and cars w/dry rotted tires!
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I used the better Business Bureau to resolve it, actually.
Thrifty first responded with only a small partial refund and I labeled that as unsatisfactory and told them more of how badly our day went with the trip due the rental car problems and their poor service.
We received another apology along with another partial refund. In total it amounted to a little more than I asked for originally.
Update: After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Thrifty actually offered an apology, although somewhat weak. They also issued a $100 refund to our credit card as a gesture of goodwill, but they did not honor my request for half of what we paid refunded...
Things got worse when we stepped out the next day at 7 a.m. to begin our trip to find the right rear tire was flat on the small Chevy Trax we were given. Turned out ALL 4 tires were heavily worn/dry rotted, BADLY cracked on the sidewalls and between the tread (see pics). I called the CS number and was told they would replace the car if we took it back to BNA.
I changed the flat and we drove to BNA to exchange where they charged us $7 for the fuel for the 10 miles we drove their defective car! We needed to be in Durham, NC by 7pm w/it being an hour ahead, so we were already late. I hoped Thrifty would restart our rental time due to the trouble/loss of time, but they did not. We noticed that later when nearing the end of the day after completing our task in Durham, so we rushed to RDU to return it by 8 pm getting there 5 minutes past the 30-minute grace period, for which they charged us an extra hour fee.
The fuel charge was going to be over $10 per gal (!), despite the BNA office charging $3-$4 per gal if not filled, which is why we didn't take the time to stop for fuel. The check-in guy there was kind enough to give me a break on the fuel, but still charged for the extra time on top of the gas cost from that morning. I had to explain the whole situation for him to give me a break on fuel. I appreciated that, but the whole thing stunk and was made worse by Thrifty not being gracious by adding extra charges and not restarting the rental time that morning when given the replacement vehicle.
All this after the initial rep at BNA wouldn't admit they were out of our reserved car, instead beginning the interaction by trying to upgrade me to a more costly "more comfortable vehicle" W/OUT telling me the real issue. He finally admitted they were out of that size when I asked where it was. He offered only the small Chevy Trax at my same reserved price while claiming it was mid-sized like a Nissan Rogue - which was untrue! I would've been fine with a Rogue-sized car, but instead, we got a compact with high miles and dry-rotted tires.
It felt like I was dealing with sleazy used car salesman trying to snooker me with premium car deals/add-ons that amounted to more than our initial reservation cost. All this could have been avoided if they'd been as nice as Avis car rental at DIA in March, when we arrived to find the Toyota RAV4 reserved was depleted, so they upgraded us without question and at no ex charge to a larger, more expensive Toyota 4Runner. Avis was out of cars at BNA, which is why we had to rent from Thrifty.
We did FINALLY get the car we initially reserved, but only after all of that chaos, really bad customer service, and a super dangerous first car. Very, very bad business!
- Um hmmm
- See my review
Preferred solution: Total price paid ($282.02) reduced/refunded by at least half due to the trouble/conditions of the whole rental experience not to mention the dangerous cond of the first car. We initially reserved a Chevy Malibu or similar full-size car. Also an apology!
User's recommendation: Avoid Thrifty/Hertz/Dollar car rental at all costs!

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Inability to contact live agent re:overcharge
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. forwarded information from Pissedconsumer & my legal suppor to company….
This transaction was made after a 50 minute wait in the queue at the Thrifty check-in desk After arriving at our destination & and reviewing the Thrifty Rental Agreement documentation, the additional LIS coverage charge was discovered. After several frustrating attempts to contact customer service at the numbers provided on the paperwork, the only possibility of speaking with an actual agent was to contact corporate. I was told that the only possibility of addressing this concern was to return to the airport Thrifty desk, which was not convenient nor close to my location. When returning the vehicle, and speaking with personnel in the return area, it took a hour to rectify the charge, and the time of our flight departure was quickly approaching.
During this time, the Thrifty employees were being inundated with myriad complaints from various customers regarding issues with their rental cars.
In addition, I was charged for both the original rental price of $440.02 & 317.02 and this error has not been rectified after several communications with Thrifty Customer Service. I am accruing bank fees for an overdraft of $440 on my account

Verified Reviewer |Incompetence
I would write this to them, but no e of their contact info works!
I am extremely frustrated by the lack of an option to speak to someone concerning the inept renting of a car. It is difficult for me to believe that you actually stay in business with this behavior toward your clients.
***on Feb 5 I waited on a 45 minute line to pick up a PREPAID rental that was paid on my Visa credit card.
***in between when I made the reservation and the day of pick up, I was issued a new card (new number, not new account) due to fraud on my card.
***when we finally got to the desk the representative wanted the card it was booked on and would not accept the new card.
At this point the old card was DEAD, but he insisted. There was nothing he could do. He gave us a Thrifty pamphlet with a few phone numbers in small print on the back page and said to call. HA!
There was no person! It was an advertisement for some type of life alert pendant and when I hit #2 which indicated I did not want more information, I was disconnected - THREE TIMES!
Then the agent (who said he was the supervisor!) told me to call the small print worldwide number. I actually did this! Of course, there was NO option to speak to a person.
Now we had wasted another 45 min to an hour because every time we went back to him from the CORNER where we were making the calls, we had to wait for his present transaction to be completed.
THIS MAN HAD NO NUMBER TO CONTACT THRIFTY OR HERTZ OR ANY PERSON ABOVE HIM.
*** We rented another car with my husbands credit card.
***at the hotel I finally found a number where I could TALK to a person.
That person said I would be refunded my prepaid money ($361.18) in the next 7-10 business days.
***on 2/6 I was refunded $163.45 instead of $361.18.
(Hertz # 0103002 on credit card)
This was a nightmare of wasted time and frustration. I would never have thought that THRIFTY and HERTZ (and whatever other unfortunate company is under your umbrella) could possibly make so many errors and fail to correct them when contacted.

Verified Reviewer |I wish I could give negative rating to Thrifty. They are the THEIVES!
PAID $56.64 MORE THAN WHAT WAS SHOWN DURING BOOKING. We booked through Thrifty for one day and paid $39.93 at the time of reservation and was due $19.6 at time of rental.
We extended the rental for one more day and paid &16.71 and was due $59.76 at time of rental. So total was $136. But they charged us $136,$39.93 and $16.71 which would be total of $192.64.
I called customer service and said that they told me that $56.64 was tax but how can they overcharge me $56.64 when on receipt it is shown $136 and when reserving, it is shown that total would be of $136? Can someone SUE THRIFTY for overcharging than what was shown during reservation and claim later that it was tax?
- Bleeds money from vulnerable customer
- Charges extra money in name of tax

Verified Reviewer |Key fob 500 dollar charge.
Returned vehicle to Las Vegas return center. When I parked it took ten minutes before anyone showed up.
When they did, they asked me if I had all of my thing and I said yes. She said just go because they had three lanes to process. So I left unknowing I still had the key fob in my pocket, which I discovered while going through the airport security check point. Once I cleared security I attempted to contact Thrity customer service which I now know is a joke.
My wife also attempted to find out the best way to return the fob. No way to talk to a person to get the answer. Attempted to contact the rental center I rented from same issue. No way to talk to a real person.
Nothing on there rental site telling me how to return the fob. Also talked to a representative at my airport when i landed. They yold me to contact the facility i rented from. Again no help.
I finally found a site on Facebook where I could send a message. Didn't here back until the next day. They give me an address to send it to but they stated it had to be received no later than 24hrs after I returned the car. Because of the lack of information and not being able to talk to a representative, it was impossible to meet that time line.
I over nighted the fob they receved which they received 18 hrs past the deadline. It cost me 54 dollars to Ship it. No refund for any of it and no compassion for me having to leave the hospital while my wife was having surgery to mail the fob. I was also charged an extra day because I picked up the car at 3:50 and returned it at 5:50.
I didn't have a problem with the charge but they didn't count the extra day as a start time for the return of the fob.
I will not use any of these companies in the future. *** poor customer service and no way to talk to a real person when you have an issue.

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Over charged
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I emailed the local news station and copied Thrifty’s media relations email address. They responded within 2 hours and acknowledged they made a mistake.
First, I had to wait almost an hour for my vehicle. The agent told me they had a lot of walk-ins that day and the day before and there were no cars.
I understand that unexpected things happen, but my reservation was made 9 day prior and I would expect my reservation to have priority over walk-ins. I have rented hundreds of cars over the years and I just chalked it up to an anomaly.
My real issue is when I returned the vehicle at 8:30 in the morning and no one was there to check in the car. I left the keys on the dash and the car with just filled gas tank which I have the have receipt for. When I got the email invoice the next day I discovered that I was charged an additional $20.00 for my rental.
I have no idea why I was charged this additional fee other than a $16.61 fuel and service charge that was not on the original quote.
Thrifty does not have live customer service agents to address disputes, only via email. I have made numerous attempts to get an answer as to exactly why and what I was charged for and have been blown off every attempt. I am appalled that this corporation does not have any meaningful way for consumers to resolve issues including billing disputes. All they offer is email which in my experience gets an reply saying nothing is wrong.
Thrifty/Hertz should do better than this. I'm sure I will get their standard response they they are sorry and strive to do better!
Well I just filed a complaint with the Ashley Moody, the Florida Attorney General. Hopefully her office will do something to help consumers from being over billed without any recourse.

K759403**** is the confirmation number, car delivery was refused by your representative so I have no confirmation number. Completely unprofessional during this process, refused credit card previously honored, requested second charge for security deposit (both charges reflected as paid) then called airport police when I requested his name to lodge complaint.
Sheriffs insisted that he provide his name for this purpose (Robert). Then Robert refused to transfer the keys to the vehicle for which he already took payment and for which I had already signed rental agreement. No other options for rentals were then available at the airport and all standalone stores were closed ((8 pm). I was finally able to locate a UHaul truck with web assisted rental access by 11:30pm and arrived at my destination by 3am, at which point I could not check in to my hotel and slept for 2 hours in the cab at a Walmart parking lot before finding a gas station bathroom in which to make myself presentable for a 7am meeting.
The new expense of Roberts action was over $400, not including the cost of fuel for a 15 foot moving truck. I understand that the labor market is tight and staffing is difficult, but as a guest facing Representative of Thifty, Robert is doing your company a disservice. Furthermore, I was informed by Robert that both charges would be reversed immediately.
It has been 36 hours and they have not been reversed. Please respond when you are able

Will never use Thrifty again. Found what I thought was a great weekly rate.
Upon pickup, told it was an EV. No mention prior. Upgraded car to gas only vehicle.
Had originally booked a week but upon arrival, I had to change to 3 day rental because not sure if I was staying all week for work. Told three times that I could extend to full week at same rate.
But when I called during the week to extend to full week, they charge me full rate for another 5 days on top of 3 days already paid! Escalated Customer Service never called me even though promised to call 24-48 hrs after I complained.
Horrible service! No integrity.
User's recommendation: Don't use Thrifty!

Enterprise is also good to rent from. We rented a mid-size, when we got there they were out of mid-size and gave us a Lincoln Continental instead for the same price.
