Verified Reviewer |Key fob 500 dollar charge.

Returned vehicle to Las Vegas return center. When I parked it took ten minutes before anyone showed up.
When they did, they asked me if I had all of my thing and I said yes. She said just go because they had three lanes to process. So I left unknowing I still had the key fob in my pocket, which I discovered while going through the airport security check point. Once I cleared security I attempted to contact Thrity customer service which I now know is a joke.
My wife also attempted to find out the best way to return the fob. No way to talk to a person to get the answer. Attempted to contact the rental center I rented from same issue. No way to talk to a real person.
Nothing on there rental site telling me how to return the fob. Also talked to a representative at my airport when i landed. They yold me to contact the facility i rented from. Again no help.
I finally found a site on Facebook where I could send a message. Didn't here back until the next day. They give me an address to send it to but they stated it had to be received no later than 24hrs after I returned the car. Because of the lack of information and not being able to talk to a representative, it was impossible to meet that time line.
I over nighted the fob they receved which they received 18 hrs past the deadline. It cost me 54 dollars to Ship it. No refund for any of it and no compassion for me having to leave the hospital while my wife was having surgery to mail the fob. I was also charged an extra day because I picked up the car at 3:50 and returned it at 5:50.
I didn't have a problem with the charge but they didn't count the extra day as a start time for the return of the fob.
I will not use any of these companies in the future. *** poor customer service and no way to talk to a real person when you have an issue.
- Vehicle was what i expected
- No way to talk to an actual person when you have an issue
- Lack of information on their site
- Poor customer service

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. By calling
I reserved a vehicle, money was taken out of my account, when I get to Memphis I was told they didnt have any vehicles, so I rented a car from Enterprise, I called to get my refund, I am still waiting for my money. They can see that I didnt get a car from Thrifty. So why is it taking so long to get my money
Resolved: Excellent Customer Service...
I had some issues with an intercity drop off fee, and the customer service agent at LAX (Anna) was very helpful on the pick-up end, and the customer service agent (Guillermo) I spoke with on the phone after my drop-off resolved my issue.

Verified ReviewerQuestion on bill
Without a long explanation, both times that I called customer service I was satisfied.
style="background-color:
style="background-coloI felt that I was overcharged on my bill for lack of a better explanation of charges from the West Palm Beach Office. When both reps heard my complaints adjustments were made and I was then satisfied.
style="background-colo
style="background-coloIt seems that the rental agent never clearly explained the additional charges I was assessed during the initial rental process, and She failed to tell me about the upgrade charge. I thought the car I chose would be in the same rental class, but it was not in the same rental class.

style="background-coloThe people I spoke to adjusted my bill, to my satisfaction, and my wife and I were very happy with the resulting new price.

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Bait and switch tactics and cars w/dry rotted tires!

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. I used the better Business Bureau to resolve it, actually.
Thrifty first responded with only a small partial refund and I labeled that as unsatisfactory and told them more of how badly our day went with the trip due the rental car problems and their poor service.
We received another apology along with another partial refund. In total it amounted to a little more than I asked for originally.
Update: After filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau Thrifty actually offered an apology, although somewhat weak. They also issued a $100 refund to our credit card as a gesture of goodwill, but they did not honor my request for half of what we paid refunded to us.
I let BBB know I wasn't 100% satisfied with their response, further explaining what we dealt with that day and how fortunate they were nothing serious happened, avoiding a possible lawsuit due to the dangerous tire situation. Not soon after, a response was received from Thrifty stating they had issued a credit for an additional $50.
I got what I asked for in the end, but just like the original situation the day of the rental, it took more coercing/convincing and work on our part in order to get them to take appropriate action. Very sad, but a sign of the times it seems.
Things got worse when we stepped out the next day at 7 a.m. to begin our trip to find the right rear tire was flat on the small Chevy Trax we were given. Turned out ALL 4 tires were heavily worn/dry rotted, BADLY cracked on the sidewalls and between the tread (see pics). I called the CS number and was told they would replace the car if we took it back to BNA.
I changed the flat and we drove to BNA to exchange where they charged us $7 for the fuel for the 10 miles we drove their defective car! We needed to be in Durham, NC by 7pm w/it being an hour ahead, so we were already late. I hoped Thrifty would restart our rental time due to the trouble/loss of time, but they did not. We noticed that later when nearing the end of the day after completing our task in Durham, so we rushed to RDU to return it by 8 pm getting there 5 minutes past the 30-minute grace period, for which they charged us an extra hour fee.
The fuel charge was going to be over $10 per gal (!), despite the BNA office charging $3-$4 per gal if not filled, which is why we didn't take the time to stop for fuel. The check-in guy there was kind enough to give me a break on the fuel, but still charged for the extra time on top of the gas cost from that morning. I had to explain the whole situation for him to give me a break on fuel. I appreciated that, but the whole thing stunk and was made worse by Thrifty not being gracious by adding extra charges and not restarting the rental time that morning when given the replacement vehicle.
All this after the initial rep at BNA wouldn't admit they were out of our reserved car, instead beginning the interaction by trying to upgrade me to a more costly "more comfortable vehicle" W/OUT telling me the real issue. He finally admitted they were out of that size when I asked where it was. He offered only the small Chevy Trax at my same reserved price while claiming it was mid-sized like a Nissan Rogue - which was untrue! I would've been fine with a Rogue-sized car, but instead, we got a compact with high miles and dry-rotted tires.
It felt like I was dealing with sleazy used car salesman trying to snooker me with premium car deals/add-ons that amounted to more than our initial reservation cost. All this could have been avoided if they'd been as nice as Avis car rental at DIA in March, when we arrived to find the Toyota RAV4 reserved was depleted, so they upgraded us without question and at no ex charge to a larger, more expensive Toyota 4Runner. Avis was out of cars at BNA, which is why we had to rent from Thrifty.
We did FINALLY get the car we initially reserved, but only after all of that chaos, really bad customer service, and a super dangerous first car. Very, very bad business!
- Um hmmm
- See my review
Preferred solution: Total price paid ($282.02) reduced/refunded by at least half due to the trouble/conditions of the whole rental experience not to mention the dangerous cond of the first car. We initially reserved a Chevy Malibu or similar full-size car. Also an apology!
User's recommendation: Avoid Thrifty/Hertz/Dollar car rental at all costs!

Verified ReviewerNON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
You literally cannot reach a live person at this company if you have an issue. Read that again because it's not an exaggeration from a pissed-off customer.
You literally cannot speak to a live person in customer service. It's all pre-recorded messaging. They have a contact form on their website and they promise to reply within...
wait for it... 5 business days!
- There literally is not an option to speak to customer service
Preferred solution: dispute charges, remove hold from my CC
User's recommendation: AVOID AT ALL COSTS
They over billed me.
I was charged for upgrades that I never requested. I got 3 different toll free numbers from Thrifty website which were useless, because all it does, is give you prompts that are of no help at all.
You will never get to talk to a live agent, which I think is done purposely. This is probably done intentionally so the customer gives up from frustration and stops pursuing his or her claims.
I will no longer rent from Thrifty, and make it a point to let other individuals know of Thrifty's horrible service and unscrupulous billing tactics. I will make sure to get this info out to all social platforms, so hard working individuals are not taken advantage of.
Your company is a disgrace

I was texted to check in using my drivers license, I did that and in the end it failed and said the names did not match but they actually do. THEN I COULD NOT REACH A PERSON, ONLY THE *** AUTOMATED SYSTEM, I COULD NOT REACH THE LOCATION WHERE I WILL RENT THE CAR AND CAN NOT GET HELP!!! WTF WHAT A *** COMPANY
User's recommendation: DON'T DO IT UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE
I need to talk to a rea person
It wasn't Thrifty that was the issue. It was Priceline. No refund even though hurricane just happened. But our credit card company got results.
Tried numerous phone numbers for "customer service " All I got were recordings.
So frustrating. We're flying into Tampa this weekend. I had questions.
User's recommendation: Think twice before using Thrifty.

Picked up the vehicle, drove it out of the property got on the expressway to notice that there was a musty, moldy smell as I started to drive the passenger floor was extremely wet turned out there mustve been some kind of leak into the car having all allergies I was unable to drive the vehicle due to an allergic reaction. I did reach out to this company.
Unfortunately, their prompts only give a few options to call somebody in case of an emergency, its a car was an accident. If theres a motor malfunction when I finally reached somebody the next day there was an option to return the car or bring a different car and unfortunately, I was already in a different vehicle and would not be able to get back to that location so I just returned the vehicle that following a with a limited mileage usage
User's recommendation: Prior to leaving rental property you drive the vehicle around if something isn’t right do not take anything for granted and take pictures of everything, they believe nothing

Verified Reviewer |Overcharge and Duplicate Charges at Melbourne Florida Thrifty
At Melbourne, Florida, Thrifty, located at 1 Air Terminal Pkwy, Melbourne, FL 32901, I've had multiple unpleasant experiences which most importantly involve Thrifty overcharging me with hidden fees that are not disclosed at the time of rental and charging me duplicate toll charges. First, in 2022, Thrifty duplicately charged me for tolls, meaning I was double charged for every toll that I went through.
Days after returning the vehicle, I then had to go through my credit card records and dispute with Thrifty, which took me several hours!
Then again in 2023, when I rented a vehicle, I asked the clerk if there was unlimited mileage and she said 'yes.' I then drove the car to the next state, which was only a few hundred miles away, and I was charged an extra $250! I will never use Thrifty again and I will recommend to everybody that I know, or anybody that I can get to listen to me, to never use Thrifty Car Rental if they value their money.

Verified Reviewer |They overcharged me almost triple for a car rental
I rented a car thru Thrifty via Priceline. The total was$ 137.41.
I decided to add a day to my rental and was told I had to do this at the Thrifty counter, which I did. Upon returning the vehicle, Thrifty charged me $354.56. They charged me for TWO days at $85.46 and an "upgrade fee" of $235.00. I never requested an upgrade of any type & returned the car at the proper time and date.
I called every number I could find for this company and nobody answers at any of them. All they do is refer you to Facebook or Twitter. Screw that.
I contacted my credit card and disputed the charge. Any suggestions about how to deal with my cc would be great!

Verified Reviewer |SCAM!!!
#1 DO NOT RENT WITH THRIFTY USE LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE #2 If you must rent with Thrifty when you pick up your car DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!!! ( also record any and all interactions with their employees) When picking up my car at PDX I was asked by the clerk if I would like to add insurance which I declined.
I was then told my card would be charged a deposit that would be held until the car was returned and then it would be released. I was told to sign here to acknowledge the deposit being held until return. According to Thrifty I was actually signing for the insurance which I had just previously declined. Now I have a $277 charge they refuse to refund.
Apparently this is common practice for the crooks. https://community.clark.com/t/thrifty-car-rental-scam/922

Verified Reviewer |Resolved: Inability to contact live agent re:overcharge
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. forwarded information from Pissedconsumer & my legal suppor to company….
This transaction was made after a 50 minute wait in the queue at the Thrifty check-in desk After arriving at our destination & and reviewing the Thrifty Rental Agreement documentation, the additional LIS coverage charge was discovered. After several frustrating attempts to contact customer service at the numbers provided on the paperwork, the only possibility of speaking with an actual agent was to contact corporate. I was told that the only possibility of addressing this concern was to return to the airport Thrifty desk, which was not convenient nor close to my location. When returning the vehicle, and speaking with personnel in the return area, it took a hour to rectify the charge, and the time of our flight departure was quickly approaching.
During this time, the Thrifty employees were being inundated with myriad complaints from various customers regarding issues with their rental cars.
In addition, I was charged for both the original rental price of $440.02 & 317.02 and this error has not been rectified after several communications with Thrifty Customer Service. I am accruing bank fees for an overdraft of $440 on my account

Verified Reviewer |Over charge
I rented a car on October 5th until the 7th. I paid with my debit card and they charged me $718.00.
The rental was $218.26, but they required a deposit of $500.00. I've been checking my bank account every day because they told me that on the same day I returned the car, the $500.00 would be credited back to my account. However, this did not happen; instead, they charged me an additional $188.87 and I don't know the reason for it. So now, my account is overdrawn by $188.87.
I need this to be resolved immediately since I never agreed to any additional charges when they were very sneaky to keep my $500.00. I want my money back, plus the money for the overcharge.

Verified Reviewer |Have not received my deposit back since July.
I still haven't received my $500.00 deposit. I was told it was returned to me and was instructed to contact my bank.
Upon contacting my financial institution, there was no record of the payment. While there is no available contact information to speak to an actual person, I would like my money and I do not appreciate the unprofessionalism of Thrifty. I was provided with at least 6 different numbers to no avail and was instructed to email Thrifty.
I have emailed them twice and was told it could take anywhere from 3 to 5 business days. I am very disappointed and simply want my funds immediately.

They shouldn’t have charged the $500 if indeed you were charged for a whole day extra.(a late fee would not count). The $54 is all on you.
